The Dukan Diet

The Dukan Diet has been a hit with the British and is now sweeping the nation! The Dukan diet is new to the U.S. and has recently been featured on Dr. Oz and in Woman’s World Magazine. Maybe you’ve never heard of it, but you’ve seen the results. J. Lo and other supermodels use the Dukan Diet as well as Kate Middleton’s mother, who used the diet to shed pounds before her daughter’s media frenzied wedding.
WHAT IS THE DUKAN DIET?
It was developed by Pierre Dukan, M.D. and is based on high protein and low fat along with eating until you are satisfied.
Dr. Dukan states that the diet is simple because it will allow you to eat as much as you need to feel satisfied. In addition he believes that this diet will work where previous diets may have failed.
How Does the Dukan Diet Work?
The diet works on a four step process. The first two steps consist of the weight loss phase and the second two allow the dieter to maintain their new, slim body for life.
So how do you use this extremely effective diet plan? Let me introduce you to the first two steps or phases. The first is called the “attack” and the second is the “cruise”.
The attack step is where you would eat your fill of lean protein and fat-free dairy. You also need to drink your daily water and are allowed a few other low carb options.
The cruise step is where you may add an unlimited amount of non-starchy vegetables to the above high protein and dairy plan.
You would alternate between the two steps until your targeted or goal weight is reached or if you want to jumpstart your weightloss program, you can stay on step one for 3-6 days. There are portion suggestions but dieters are advised to eat until satisfied, which solves the main issues with most other diets..hunger.
This diet is somewhat similar to the Atkins but focuses on high protein with low fat as opposed to the Atkins where it is advised not to cut fat or it may stall weight loss.
Why Does the Dukan Diet Work?
- The Dukan Diet is based on the fact that lean protein will reduce hunger and causes the body to burn more fat. This means that you will eat less as your metabolism is boosted about 30%.
- A special made pancake daily is a requirement of the Dukan Diet. This pancake is made with oat bran and oat bran is said to decrease appetite and block some of the calories from being absorbed. Oat bran also lowers cholesterol, fights diabetes and helps in digestion. The best benefit of this little cake is that on the cruise days, the pancake along with the required vegetables will help inches melt off your waistline.
- The final feature of this diet plan is how it utilizes dairy products. Research studies indicate that milk is good for your health because of the calcium and vitamin D it contains. Not only are these vitamins beneficial, but this combination helps your body get rid of stored fat up to 60% faster!
For these reasons Dukan believes that his plan will work even if you’ve tried other diets and failed.
As with any diet, exercise is recommended for better results. On “attack” days a 20 minute brisk walk should be done and on the “cruise” days you step it up to 30 minutes. Exercise along with a daily multi-vitamin ensures proper nutrition and exercise.

I saw this post and started to read up on the Dukan Diet. I have been doing the Atkins, but am still having issues loosing weight.
I purchased the book “The Dukan Diet: 2 Steps to Lose the Weight, 2 Steps to Keep It Off Forever” and am going to give it a try.
I like the wider variety of foods and the fact that you can eat until you are full. The only challenge is going to be cutting out fat (butter, cream, milk and cheese)because I am used to the Atkins where you didn’t have to do that.
The explanation behind the diet makes sense and it seems like it will be fairly easy to follow.
I started today with the “pancake” and we will see how it goes…..
I started the Dukan diet about a week ago. It is pretty easy as far as knowing what to eat and not having to measure things.
So far, I have lost 7 lbs. I alternated days between the attack and cruise steps so I didn’t loose as much as if I just did 6 attack days.

Oh my gosh! I have tried every diet….the cabbage soup diet, low calorie diet, Atkins; you name it, I’ve tried it. Too many plateaus and feeling crappy.
The Dukan Diet is different for me. I read about it here at dietfitnessblog.com and then saw a write up in Woman’s World. Then I saw it on Dr. Oz so I finally decided to give it a try.
I have lost 10 lbs in less than 2 weeks and I didn’t even do the strictest plan! I have been alternating between the attack and cruise and every day I loose something.
It is not an easy diet to stick to because it is pretty restrictive; and don’t believe anyone that says that they are not hungry on this diet BUT you do get results and that’s what keeps me going. I am not exercising other than walking a few days a week.
I would highly recommend this diet especially for those that can’t seem to loose weight on other diets. I now believe the Dukan promise! Only 13 more pounds to go!
I just wanted to say thank you to this website and the Dukan Diet. I googled and found this article and read the comments. Since others were having success, I thought I would view the link for the Dr. Oz video and give this diet a try.
I am 49 and have been slowly gaining weight for about 3-4 years now. I have tried lots of other diets without much success. I am also going through menopause and have seen other women struggle with weight around this age.
I started on the Dukan Diet and now am down from 147 lbs to 135. I took a break for a few days and started up again and only gained one pound.
This time I will stick to all the phases and am targeting about 125 which I haven’t been in over 10 years.
The Dukan Diet is effective so it makes it easier to stick to when you get results.

I am really impressed with the Dukan Diet. I have gotten great results and am still able to have enough energy to complete my workout routine. It is the first diet I have tried that allows me to drop weight quickly so that I can get to the maintenance phase and maintain my goal weight.
I recommend this diet for anyone that wants some serious weight loss!
I have been overweight for most of my life and have tried numerous diets. I am 23 and was sick of being self-conscious and always being the “fat girl”. My whole family is overweight and I wanted to break the mold.
I started the Dukan Diet as a last resort. I had to give up all my favorite foods but so far it has been well worth it! I have lost 35 pounds in two months and continue to lose weight daily.
Now, when I am with my friends, I blend in. I have more energy and feel a lot better about myself. I feel in control of my weight for the first time in my life and am thrilled to be average and not “obese” on the weight charts.
My family is so impressed that some are starting the Dukan Diet. I bought the Dukan Diet books for my mother and sisters and hope that they find the success and freedom that I have. Thank you Dr. Dukan and this site for helping me with my goals!
This is a great diet! I needed something to help me shed a few pounds before my class reunion and lost 8 lbs in 5 days. It was fairly easy and I like the fact that you can eat as much as you want of certain foods so I was never really hungry. There’s not a lot of info about the diet out there so I bought the book and it was well worth it..especially for the list of foods and recipes.

Best buy ever! I am 71 and had low expectations of losing the unwanted pounds. Within 6 weeks I had lost 20 pounds and as promised in the book, the weight has stayed off. The book is concise and easy to understand with no measuring or weighing. Just plenty to eat. Have recommended it to my friends who are amazed at my new healthy shape.
